CHAPTER 3 - Launch day

13.1.16

Dear Diary,

As I gaze out the porthole on our planet, I’m struck by the technology that delivered us to the space station today when just one hundred years ago the horse was still the common form of transport. Just twenty four hours ago, I was in the crew quarters at our landing base in Kazakhstan getting ready for the journey of a lifetime. I had to prepare for two years. Training has been very challenging. We had to learn Russian because we will be driving a Russian rocket.  I should treasure every moment while I am gone up there.

As I launch into space I felt the punch of the fuel lifting us up. For the first few minutes I felt a bit nervous then I was better. I skype my family and say good bye .  I am wearing a warm astronaut suit and I can’t help feeling very proud of myself.  We were getting ready for the journey of a lifetime . Everybody was waving to me, wishing me good luck, I felt very happy. This is the next stage of a human exploration.

I saw the pointer jerk as we hit zero gravity. I looked out of the porthole and saw the light change from light blue to dark blue. I knew that space was approaching.

When the rocket landed on the ISS I felt really excited because not that much people could go to the ISS. There are lots of manual controls on the ISS. I am the first crew member to enter the ISS.

I will make history for the world by going. At the beginning I felt a bit scared but now I am very proud of myself. While I was floating I skype my family.

I feel quite dizzy on the ISS I had another talk with my family back at Earth. I plan to run the London marathon in space but I need to train a lot. The first twenty four hours were rough my brain doesn’t match my eyes and ears don’t match. I had not mastered the somersault yet but practice makes perfect.

Good night diary .
